Floods hit Bacolod, Talisay;
States of calamity declared

Bacolod and Talisay cities were placed under states of calamity yesterday after flooding caused 2,167 families to evacuate, destroyed 112 houses, and damaged 3,356 others when heavy rains that poured after midnight were exacerbated by high tide.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the Bacolod Sanggunian unanimously declared a state of calamity on his request, so P5 million could be allocated to assist the flood victims.

Hospital patients were evacuated to another floor as water rose and expensive fighting cocks drowned when floods hit Bacolod City after midnight yesterday.

About 60 patients at the Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital wards located in its basement had to be transferred to other floors after it was hit by about four feet of floodwaters.

Equipment, including computers, and documents in their offices estimated to cost P10 million were also damaged, Dr. Evangeline Johnson, hospital president and chief operating officer, said. moremoremore

Dads to decide Saturday
on gov't center contract

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod will meet Saturday to decide on the request of the Mayor for authority to sign the contract with Hilmarc's Construction Corp. for the construction of the new government center.

While majority of the members said they were ready to cast their vote during their regular session yesterday, Councilor Ana Marie Palermo said she has to be given time to prepare her colatilla or conditions.

Councilor Al Victor Espino asked, "What was the purpose of calling Councilor Arturo Parreņo and what have we been doing in the past four special sessions?"moremoremore
