| Relief of 5 cops denied
Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, yesterday denied reports that five of his officers will be relieved and sent to Panay Island.
Quebrar said he does not know of an impending transfer as he has not recommended the reassignment of the police officers mentioned.
He, however, said that the Philippine National Police – Western Visayas Regional Office has the prerogative to order the relief of cops for certain reasons.
PNP Region 6 director, Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, could not be reached for comment yesterday as he was reportedly checking on police stations in Panay.
Quebrar also said Cuevas could directly order the transfer of officers even without his recommendation.
While administrative charges could be a ground for relief, Quebrar said PNP personnel could also be reassigned if their skills are required elsewhere “for the good of the service.”
Last month, four BCPO City Mobile Group members figured in a scuffle with jeepney drivers in Bacolod over traffic.
The officers and the drivers have since swapped criminal and administrative charges.
Two members of Police Station 5 were also subject of an investigation after they allegedly entered a cockpit, and for a shooting incident between them and a civilian in Brgy. 4, Bacolod, also in March.*PP

Four suspected marijuana pushers and users were arrested in Pulupandan and Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, from April 3 to yesterday, police said.
Inspector Joshua Villasis yesterday identified those arrested in Pulupandan as Angelito de la Cruz, 40, and Alberto Matus, 22.
Villasis said de la Cruz and Matus were caught in the act of smoking suspected marijuana cigarets in a sugarcane field at Brgy. Zone 2 in Pulupandan.
Their arrest yielded 13 sticks of suspected marijuana cigarets placed inside a cigaret pack, Villasis added.
Senior Inspector Rico Santotome, chief of the Negros Occidental police Special Operations Group, yesterday said they also arrested Lester Tuvilla and Christian Nombres in raid and buy-bust operations in barangays Recreo and Miranda in Pontevedra town last week.
Santotome said their arrest also yielded 12 suspected marijuana cigarets.
All the four arrested are now detained at the Pulupandan and Pontevedra Police Station, pending the filing of charges against them for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.*GPB
