| Six bonnet-wearing armed men yesterday shot and killed Councilor Jeniviv Fajardo of Moises Padilla town in Negros Occidental, who was to get married on June 21, in Brgy. Pula , Canlaon City , Negros Oriental.
Fajardo, 32, who sustained gunshot wounds on the left side of his stomach and his right thigh, was declared dead on arrival at the Canlaon District Hospital , an initial police report said.
Chief Inspector Rosauro Francisco, Moises Padilla police chief, said Fajardo was on his way to his cabbage farm, on board a motorcycle, when he was shot three times by the unidentified gunmen at about 6 a.m. yesterday, at an overflow area in Sitio Pantao, Brgy. Pula , Canlaon City .
Francisco said Fajardo, despite his wounds, managed to escape and seek help from his fiancée who resides in the area, who brought him to a hospital. He, however, died due to loss of blood.
Fajardo was a second-termer councilor of the town.
Moises Padilla Councilor Dolly Yasa described Fajardo as a jolly person who had extended help to his constituents in Moises Padilla.
The ordinances he had sponsored include the Pauper's Burial Assistance Program, aimed at helping indigents.
Francisco, who shared the observation of Yasa, said he is not aware that Fajardo had enemies in Moises Padilla.
Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, said they are now coordinating with the Canlaon police in identifying the killers of Fajardo. The police is still groping in the dark on their motive. However, there were reports that the killing may have been triggered by a love triangle.
Lt. Col. Franco Nemesio Gacal, 11 th Infantry Battalion commander, said Brgy. Pula is a rebel-infested area in Canlaon City , although he could not say if rebels were involved in the killing.*GPB
