The installation of the closed circuit TV camera is, without a doubt, a very helpful aid in identifying criminals and perpetrators of thieveries and other illegal acts in both business and government establishments, and even in private residences. With the CCTVs doing their job, the police may have already solved several crimes involving break-ins, and even those that take place in the vicinity of homes and establishments.

But, as in many other gadgets intended to aid the authorities in determining the modus operandi, as well as the identities of the suspects, the CCTV is also subject to tampering and even destruction by seasoned criminals. That is why we have suggested in this paper that business and homeowners who decide to install them in their places, should be more circumspect about it and avoid making known their intentions to do so.

Already we have reports published about housebreakers being knowledgeable about turning off, or even destroying CCTVs installed in homes or offices they have victimized. In Pasig City, very recently, thieves who were ingenuous enough to dig a tunnel to get into a pawnshop and burgle it, also detached its CCTV, and left it in the tunnel where investigators later discovered it. It was as if they wanted to mock the owners about the effectivity of the device supposed to aid them.

It will therefore, probably help home and business owners more to arrange with their suppliers a method of installing the device where it cannot be seen or located by those with evil intentions. Otherwise, they will just have a false sense of security and their expenses for its installation will just go to waste.*
