Urban poor holds
clean up drive

Members of the Kongreso ng Pagkakaisa ng mga Maralita ng Lungsod-Nasyunal, Bacolod City, in coordination with the City Mayor's Office for Sectoral Concerns held a clean-up drive along the shorelines of Purok Sigay, Brgy. Singcang-Airport and Mansilingan Creek in Brgy 35, Bacolod City yesterday.

Executive assistant Ernesto Pineda said the activity is in line with the celebration of Urban Poor Solidarity Week under Presidential Proclamation No.367.

Alan Nagum, representative of KPML, said they will have a series of activities in Bacolod City starting Monday.

He said they attended a disaster preparedness training Tuesday for urban poor and women sector, and today, they held a clean-up drive along the shorelines of Purok Sigay, Brgy. Singcang-Airport down to the boulevard in Brgy. 35.

They were able to remove about two-truckloads of plastic materials in Purok Lampirong.

Arnel Ambid of KPML said the Sectoral Concern Office is planning to conduct values education campaign in the community.

The participation of the community in programs of the local government, such as waste segregation, will be a great help to the city, he said.

“We should be part of the solution and not the problem,” Ambid said.*CGS
