The Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan unanimously approved the P3.546 billion annual budget for the province for 2018 yesterday.
The P3.5 billion covers the 2018 Annual General Fund, and the budgets of the Economic Enterprise Development Department - P66,286,717, and the Hospital Operations Department - P1,456,272,426, Board Member Salvador Escalante, SP Committee of Budget and Finance chairman, said.
The 2018 budget increased by 12.45 percent compared to the P3.154 billion 2017 budget, he added.
The bulk of the budget will go to the increase in salaries of employees and hospital operations, Escalante said.
It covers the third tranche salary increase of the provincial government employees starting Jan. 1, 2018 .
The new budget also allots funds for the upgrading of the Capitol's Human Resource Management Division that had about 18 personnel to a department with a bigger staff to address the problem of delayed hiring, Escalante said.
The 2018 budget also covers the newly created Organic Farming Division.
Under the 2018 budget, special allocations include the 20 percent Development Fund P608 million, 5 percent Calamity Fund P160 million, aid to barangays P340 million, miscellaneous personnel benefits, terminal leave benefits P2 million, loyalty pay - P1 million, Panaadsa Negros Festival P10 million, Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council Programs P5 million, Peace and Order Fund P10 million and Gender and Development Programs - P160 million, Escalante said.*CPG
