Park work fast-tracked

The unfinished rehabilitation of the Capitol Lagoon Park in Bacolod City,as cited by the provincial government technical working group,is being fast-tracked by the contractor of Ayala Land Inc., to enable the park to open hopefully by next week, Felipe Astorga, provincial pollution officer, who is in-charge of the park, said yesterday.

An online petition was launched by lawyer Andrea Lizares Si calling for the reopening of the Capitol Lagoon Park to the people, which has been closed for more than a year, for improvements by Ayala.

Ayala had presented a P25 million plan for the improvement of the park to Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. inJune 2015.

Marañon has ordered the reopening of the park before Christmas after the unfinished improvements are completed.

Astorgasaid he is hoping that Ayala can turn over the renovated park to the Capitol by Dec. 13 so Christmas decorations can be put in place for its opening, hopefully, by Dec. 15.

The bulk of the expense of Ayala for the park went to the underground wiring of its lighting, and repaving of footwalks, he said.

He said Ayala had hired a contractor named Vidal to undertake the rehabilitation of the park and it had subcontracted it to another person. The sub contractor, however, stopped work for about a month because of lack of funds, but returned yesterday, he said.*CPG
