Anti-muffler ordinance enforced in Dumaguete

The implementation of the anti-muffler ordinance of Dumaguete City is in full swing, Provincial Highway Patrol Team officer, Senior Insp. Robelito Mariano, said.

In the past six days, the team impounded 83 motorcycles with modified and defective mufflers and for other violations, ranging from driving without license and unregistered units.

Some were flagged down for having no side mirrors, tail lights or signal lights.

Yesterday, 13 motorcycles were also impounded, or a total of 96 for seven days of operation, including one motorist who engaged members of the highway patrol team in a chase, and which resulted in the recovery of illegal drugs inside the utility box of his Fury Kawasaki 125cc motorcycle.

Kahupayan Center opens
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Dumaguete Kahupayan Pastoral Care and Counseling for women and girls facing difficulties, problems and abuses, will be a venue for them to unload their burdens.

Florence Tangente, who heads the center, explains that the facility offers a variety of services for these women, especially victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking, and other forms of maltreatment.

In an interview Wednesday, she said the center basically will be a venue for “listening”, in that many women who go to confession need more time than just receiving the sacrament to talk about their problems.
