Duterte approves
SSS pension hike

Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate and Bayan Muna Chairman Neri Colmenares thanked Pres. Digong Duterte, the House leadership led by Speaker Bebot Alvarez and the new SSS Board led by Chair Amado Valdez for heeding the voice of the people in granting the long awaited hike in the pension, their press release said.

“We know that the P2000 hike is still very minimal for the required decent and livable pension. Yet, we hope that this would help our pensioners to somehow alleviate their hardships. Bayan Muna will continue to push for more reforms and for the earlier implementation of the second P1,000 tranche of the increase,” Rep. Zaratesaid.

Bayan Muna Chairman NeriColmenares said, “I'm happy that the president approved the SSS pension hike and we thank Pres. Duterte for allowing the increase. This means a lot to our senior citizens,”

“It means that the work that everyone did since we filed the bill in 2011 has not been in vain. This will be of help for our senior citizens. Now SSS will have to work hard and institute reforms to increase collection and investment revenue. We hope the president will also facilitate the speedy approval of the next tranche," he also said.

“Bayan Muna will also help the SSS Board in finding ways to lengthen its fund life without increasing SSS contributions,” Zarate said.*
