Negros Occidental mayors and other local chief executives in Visayas are scheduled to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte 2 p.m. today at Malacañang in Manila.
EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon, who confirmed his attendance at a meeting with Duterte, with other Negros Occidental mayors, however, said yesterday that he is not privy to what topics will be discussed during the forum.
Malacon said that they were only informed by the Department of Interior and Local Government and Negros ACE (Association of Chief Executives) that they are being invited to go to Malacañang today.
DILG provincial officer Maredith Madayag, however, said yesterday that Visayas mayors will have a New Year's call on Duterte at Malacañang.
Madayag said no substitution is allowed.
She added that possible topics to be discussed during the meeting may include the proposed federalism and the anti-drug campaign accomplishments of the Duterte administration.
Nineteen of the 32 mayors in Negros Occidental, who supported Mar Roxas during the May 2016 presidential elections, have joined the PDP Laban, which is the political party of Duterte.*GPB
