SIFI holds 183rd
outreach in Silay

The 183 rd medical dental mission of the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc., in cooperation with the Asociacion De Hacienderos De Silay Saravia through Simag Foundation Inc., was held at Hacienda Hinicayan Elementary School in Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City in Negros Occidental, recently, its press release said.

The SIFI team was headed by Neolita Alminaza and supported by staff, while Simag Foundation Inc. was represented by its project staff.

The outreach helped 288 sugar workers, and 253 of them availed of free medical consultation and medicines, 43 had dental extractions, and 200 children and some adults were fed. The feeding materials were provided by Loving Rose Mission Philippines and the Ontario Gleaners of Canada.

Prevalent illnesses discovered included hypertension, upper respiratory tract infection, abdominal pain, LBM, cough and colds, fever and first degree malnutrition among children, and hyperacidity, gastritis, arthritis, and anemia for adults.

The mission was joined by Drs. Milagros Amarra, Nadala Gendrala, Judith Chua and Mary June Cabarles-Señeres and dentists Benetter Llamado and Rey Martin Locson, assisted by four dental aides.

The outreach was part of the thrust of SIFI to provide medical services and health education to sugar workers and their families, the press release added.*
