Cock breeder shot dead
BY RENE GENOVE

A breeder of fighting cocks was shot dead by two suspects riding in tandem on a motorcycle Saturday near the Dauin cockpit arena at Masaplod North in the town.

The victim was identified by the police as Arvin Cubalan, of legal age, from Daang Tattayan, Candayong-Calindagan in Dumaguete City.

Initial police investigation disclosed that at about 3 p.m. Saturday, the victim and his two companions identified as Guillermo Ayaay Moralio, 66, of West Poblacion, Bacong, and Anthony Namacpacan Beolanguiz, 47, of Dumaguete, were having a drinking spree at the stall owned by Daisy Alcoriza in Masaplod, Dauin.

Witnesses said the two suspects, wearing bull caps and with their faces covered, arrived on board a motorcycle, alighted, and shot Cubalan three times. When the victim fell on the ground, he was also shot in the head.

A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered two slugs and four empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol.

The victim was pronounced dead by a physician, and the suspects are still unknown and at large.

Insp. Bernabe Rubio, officer-in-charge of the Dauin Police Station, said a follow-up investigation is ongoing.*RG
