Two riding-in-tandem suspects shot and killed Rey Anthony Gayo Sillero, 36, of Amihan in Brgy. Candau-ay, and an assistant supervisor of PhilSouth Construction, in Purok Saging, also of the barangay, in Dumaguete City.

Police investigation showed that the victim was on his way to work on board a motorcycle when the two suspects, who were in another motorcycle, overtook him, and one of them shot him in the back.

A police blotter dated June 17 showed that at about 7:30 a.m., the police received a call informing them that there was a shooting incident in Candau-ay just near the Junob Elementary School.

A co-worker of the victim, identified as Jeroc Deen Noel, 37, stated that while they were on their way to work riding their respective motorcycle and upon reaching the place, the witness and the victim noticed a motorcycle with two unidentified suspects that tried to overtake, prompting the victim to give way. Suddenly, the back rider pulled an unidentified caliber of pistol and shot the victim once in the back.

The victim was brought to Silliman University Medical Foundation Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician, Dr. Alex Abucejo.
