A supervisor of a construction company and a rice field owner were killed in shooting incidents in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, and Escalante City, Negros Occidental, Saturday.
Two riding-in-tandem suspects shot and killed Rey Anthony Gayo Sillero, 36, of Amihan in Brgy. Candau-ay, and an assistant supervisor of PhilSouth Construction, in Purok Saging, also of the barangay, in Dumaguete City.
Police investigation showed that the victim was on his way to work on board a motorcycle when the two suspects, who were in another motorcycle, overtook him, and one of them shot him in the back.
A police blotter dated June 17 showed that at about 7:30 a.m., the police received a call informing them that there was a shooting incident in Candau-ay just near the Junob Elementary School.
Personnel of the Dumaguete Police Station, led by duty officer of the day, SPO4 Robert Elnas, and duty investigator PO3 John Carlo Jocutan responded and recovered a black Honda Beat that rammed a banana just beside the road.
A co-worker of the victim, identified as Jeroc Deen Noel, 37, stated that while they were on their way to work riding their respective motorcycle and upon reaching the place, the witness and the victim noticed a motorcycle with two unidentified suspects that tried to overtake, prompting the victim to give way. Suddenly, the back rider pulled an unidentified caliber of pistol and shot the victim once in the back.
The victim was brought to Silliman University Medical Foundation Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician, Dr. Alex Abucejo.
Rolando Mahilum, 53, was on his way to check his rice fields in Sitio Amparo, Brgy. Mabini, Escalante City, Negros Occidental, when he was waylaid and shot by an unidentified gunman.
Investigation of the Escalante City police showed that Mahilum succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head.
Four empty shells of a 45 caliber pistol were recovered at the crime scene.
The lifeless body of Jerry Boy Jabonete was also found by his relatives about 500 meters from his residence in Brgy. Santa Cruz, Murcia, also on Saturday.
The victim had injuries at the back of his head, police investigation showed.
Regie Mariposa survived the attempt on his life Saturday, after he was shot by an unidentified suspect in Brgy. Winaswasan, Calatrava.
Mariposa, 46, sustained a gunshot wound in the left shoulder, and is being treated at the San Carlos City District Hospital.*GPB/RG
