18 injured in 2 accidents

Eighteen persons sustained minor injuries in two road accidents, one in Bacolod City and the other in Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental, Saturday and yesterday.

About 14 persons, mostly passengers, were injured in a collision between a public utility jeepney and a motorcycle in front of the YMCA building at Burgos Street in Bacolod, at about 5 p.m. Saturday.

Police Officer 1 Roland Abong, duty traffic investigator of Police Station 2, said 14 persons, including the drivers of the motorcycle and the jeepney were rescued by the emergency response team of the city.

However, only six were admitted to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and one to the Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital, Abong said.

As of yesterday, all of the victims have already been discharged from the hospitals, he said.

Investigation showed that the black Rusi motorcycle driven by Dennis Gernalin and the jeepney with Homesite-Central Market in route, driven by Teddy Arellano, were travelling west of the road when they hit each other, Abong said.

The jeepney, with passengers in it, continued to move to the right side of the road before falling on its side, Abong said.

Meanwhile, four passengers of a Ceres Liner suffered minor injuries when the vehicle fell on its side at 5:50 p.m. yesterday in SitioTalos, Brgy.Igmaya-an, Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental

Senior Inspector Joevito Bose, Salvador Benedicto police chief, saidthe Ceres Liner air-conditioned bus from San Carlos City, bound for Bacolod City, was negotiating a blind curve in the place, an accident-prone area, when its brakes malfunctioned.

Bose said the accident caused minor injuries to four of the 65 passengers, who were given initial treatment at the site by members of the rescue team and health personnel of the Salvador Benedicto municipal government.*SGG/GPB
