BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said the provincial government is in solidarity with the sugar industry in its campaign against the unregulated importation of the high fructose corn syrup.

Anchored on data presented by the Sugar Regulatory Administration, the volume of HFCS inflow being consumed by soda and beverage companies is equivalent to more than 5 Million 50kg bags of sugar, he said.

Imagine the far-reaching effect of this importation to then economy and to the millions in the labor sector, Marañon said. moremoremore

Dumaguete cops visit
2 ‘drug hot spot' brgys
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Two barangays in Dumaguete City, that are considered hot spots, in the proliferation of illegal drugs, were visited recently by personnel of the Dumaguete City Police as part of Operation Double Barrel Reloaded.

Headed by the chief of police, Supt. Jovito Atanacio, police personnel and barangay officials revisited surrenderers under Oplan Tokhang of barangays Looc and Cadawinonan.

Atanacio said the re-visitation is aimed at making sure the personalities are accounted for, aside from verifying their present status, after a lull of almost two months in the anti-drug operation..
