One killed, cops
eyeing love triangle

A love triangle triggered a shooting incident in Purok Medalya Milagrosa, Barangay Sum-ag in Bacolod City, where one was killed and another was injured, at about 11 p.m. Sunday, the police said.

Maricar Marañon, 27, of Barangay Poblacion in Bago City, Negros Occidental, succumbed to a gunshot wound on her back, Senior Police Officer 3 Ramie Sayson, officer-in-charge of Police Station 9, said yesterday.

Marañon's live-in partner,Melchor Flores, 48, of Barangay Sum-ag, sustained a gunshot wound on his forefinger and was brought to the South Bacolod General Hospital, a police report said.

Investigation showed that the suspect identified as Jose Rommel Jolito, 43, of Barangay Pacol in Bago, broke into the house of the victims by kicking open the door, Sayson said.

Jolito then shot Marañon and Flores, with a firearm of unknown caliber and escaped on board a tricycle, Sayson said, adding that the suspect had an unidentified lookout.

There were no recoveries from the crime scene, Sayson said.

He said Jolito was a former live-in partner of Marañon.

The police conducted a hot-pursuit operation but Jolito had already fled.

Sayson said the killing was well-planned as Jolito had already fixed his things before he went to the house of the victims.

The autopsy on the body of Marañon has been done and the police are only waiting for other documents to be completed before charges for murder and frustrated murder will be filed against Jolito, Sayson added.*SGG
