Mahindra keeps Nlex
winless in PBA

Mahindra banked on a solid performance from James White to down NLEX, 89-81, for its first win in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City last night.

White tallied 30 points, 23 rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal to lead the way for the Chris Gavina-mentored squad, who added more woes to the club of Coach Yeng Guiao.

After letting the Road Warriors open the game on a 7-2 run, the Floodbusters went full throttle afterward, scoring seven straight points to take the lead, 9-7.

After a Raul Soyud basket to tie the game, Mahindra went on an 8-3 run to go up, 17-12.

NLEX would still equalize after a 6-1 run, but Mahindra scored nine straight points to take the lead for good, 27-18, early in the second quarter and even stretched it to 12, 36-24, later in the period.

The Road Warriors would draw to within two, 34-36, after a 10-0 run, but the Floodbusters answered with an 15-2 blitz for their largest lead at 15, 51-36, early in the third period.

NLEX slowly got back and came to within two, 60-62, later in the third canto, but Mahindra pulled away for good after a 12-2 run to rebuild a double-digit spread while keeping its opponent at bay the rest of the way.

Four locals led by LA Revilla each chipped in nine markers for the Floodbusters.

Wayne Chism had his own 20-20 game for the Road Warriors, who lost for the third straight time in the mid-season tournament, with 28 points and 21 rebounds alongside two assists and four blocks.
