DAR, ARBO officials ink P7M MOA for services

A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Department of Agrarian Reform Negros Occidental 2, and the Minoro Isabel Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association for  economic support servicesworth P.7 million to  Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, yesterday.

The MOA  covers the provision of support for the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Project using Integrated and Diversified Natural Farming Technology cum Community-Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Project replication that will benefit 78 ARBs.

Pay unpaid accounts: NIA

The National Irrigation Administration is reminding  farmerswho had back accounts or unpaid Irrigation Service Fees,before the effectivity of Republic Act  10924 or the General Appropriation Act of 2017 that provides P2 billion for the irrigation fee subsidy of the National Irrigation Administration, that they still have obligations to be paid.

NIA regional director Mario Sandi said yesterday that they are still calling on the farmers to pay their accounts. It will be unfair for other farmers who paid their dues diligently every year if they do not pay, he said.

Under the new guidelines the collection of unpaid accounts will still be pursued by the NIA like with the help of the Office of the Solicitor General and Office of the Government Corporate Counsel, he said.

Farmers get vermin-composting help

The Department of Agriculture  and the Bureau of Soil and Water Management  recently gave farm implements to  two organic farmers’ groups.

The implements  included shredders, vermi tea brewers and 15 kilos of African night crawlers given  to the Pandanon Integrated Balangon Farm Workers Association Inc. of Salvador Benedicto town and Brgy. Patag United Farmers Association of Silay City.

The package implements,  thatinclude the vermin,  are  under the Small Scale Production Program of the DA and BSWM for the organic farmers group of the province.
“We are identified as one of the beneficiaries because the town has been into organic farming since the 90’s”,  Salvador Benedicto Municipal Agriculturist, Pepito Liboon, said.
