Romanito Maravilla tracksters win medals in 12th SEA Athletics Youth Championships

  Homegrown athletics standouts Bernalyn Bejoy, Trexie dela Torre, and Joycie Berganio of Romanito Maravilla National High School in Bacolod City brought home four silver medals and one bronze from the 12th Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships held early this week in Ilagan, Isabela.

          Bejoy captured the silver medal in girls’ 800m run, settled for bronze in 400m hurdles then added another silver to her haul as member of the quartet that placed second in the 4x400m girls’ relay.

          Her schoolmate, Beranio, got hold of a silver medal from the international competition as the Team Philippines registered another No. 2 finish in the girls’ 4x100m relay.

Azkals beat Nepal, 4-1 in Asian Cup Qualifiers

Phil Younghusband scored two dramatic goals to power Philippine Azkals' 4-1 victory against Nepal in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers Tuesday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

 “Our intensity in the game was good, we played as a team,” said skipper Younghusband during the post-game interview.

Younghusband started the national team attacked with his arrowed penalty shot in the 21st minute of the match, bringing wild cheers from the fans.

PHL netters beat India in WJT Final Qualifying

The Philippines bounced back from its opening-day loss on Tuesday, beating India, 2-1, to boost its chance of making the quarterfinal round in the ongoing World Juniors Tennis Championship Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ma. Carmencita Carlos and Alexandra Eala secured the victory for the Philippines after winning their respective singles matches in the best-of-three tie.

Carlos needed one hour and 30 minutes to conquer Gargi Pramo Pawar, 6-2, 6-2, while Eala prevailed over Sarah Dev, 6-2, 6-3, after 70 minutes.
