AACI Trading plays spoiler in
Sweet Crystals bid for No. 2

AACI Trading beat Sweet Crystals Sugar, 88-84, in a come-from-behind victory that stalled the latter's bid for the No. 2 spot in the team standings of the 2nd Conference Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament Friday night at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

It was Sweet Crystals Sugar's second defeat after nine games while AACI Trading improved to 6-2 at the end of the elimination round.

AACI Trading held a 25-22 advantage behind in the first quarter behind Carlo Chu's 12 points but Sweet Crystals Sugar's trio of Ceasar Tan, Alexis Somo and Jasper Geolingo combined for 25 points to move ahead at halftime, 49-38.

Chu and Jun Luciano delivered 9 points apiece to cut the deficit to 71-62 even as Matt Deles scored 7 points for Sweet Crystals Sugar.

In the payoff quarter, Sweet Crystals Sugar answered the challenge of AACI Trading until Eugene Tsai made a free throw and Bren Tajonera connected on an offensive putback for an 82-81 AACI Trading lead.

Sweet Crystals' Henel Jison scored inside but Chu knocked down a fadeaway jumper and followed it up with two free throws while Eugene Tsai made 2 of 4 free throws for the final count.

Chu paced AACI Trading with 33 points, Luciano added 16, Jan Jan Young had 11 points, Tajonera drilled 10, Tsai scored 7 points and Matthew Yap shot 6 points.

Tan led Sweet Crystals Sugar with 15 points, Deles produced 14, Cris Pascua hit 12 points Alvan Rodriguez delivered 9, and Joemarie Regalado made 6 points.

In a previous game, JSY Countertrade rallied past an undermanned Huminova Tigers, 70-67, after training the Tigers, 55-43, at the end of the third quarter.

But fatigue finally caught up with Huminova Tigers as they can only score 12 points in the payoff quarter against the 27 points of JSY Countertrade led by Alvin Dionela who scored12 points.

Dionela led JSY Countertrade with 15 points while Onjo Yap finished with 20 points for the Tigers.

In the nightcap, Organic Solution defeated Silver Dragon Transport, 85-74.

Organic Solutions erected a 29-12 opening quarter lead and never look back to register the win.

Dante Ma and Lito Dumdum scored 24 points for Organic Solutions and Julius Teruel added 19 points while Richard Co scored 19 points. for Silver Dragon Transport.*
