The Dumaguete Sangguniang Panlungsod has been holding sessions to scrutinize the proposed 2018 annual budget of P689 million.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said the city legislators were holding sessions yesterday on the budget that will fund proposed projects, programs and activities of the city , totalling P689 million.
Department and division heads appeared before the SP to defend their specific budgetary requests that were included in the proposed budget for next year.
Based on the records, the city derives 62 percent of its income from the Internal Revenue Allotment at P429 million, and revenue from local taxes at P266 million or 38 percent of the total budget.
The administration is determined to gradually break away from dependency on IRA by intensifying tax collection through a vigorous tax information campaign and developing effective strategies and measures in the collection of delinquent taxes and more revenues from local sources.
Of the estimated income, Remollo has proposed P283 million in projects and programs for planning, financial, administrative, legal and legislative services and regulatory functions of the city.
Each of the 30 barangays will receive at least P400,000 is projects and P50,000 as aid for their identified priorities.
Social services will get P74.4 million; P58.4 million for health services while sports and education will be allocated P6.4 million to help the poor and the marginalized sector.
About P97.7 million shall be appropriated for the operation and maintenance of the public market, agriculture, environment, tourism services and even the slaughterhouse.
About P84 million worth of infrastructure projects for 2018 will be taken from the 20 percent development fund and shall be implemented in the barangays. About P34.4 million was also set aside for disaster relief and rehabilitation.*RG
