Duterte vows to impeach
chief justice, ombudsman

President Rodrigo Duterte vowed yesterday to have the Supreme Court chief justice and a special prosecutor impeached, as he defended himself against corruption allegations he said were aimed at ousting him.

Duterte accused Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno of corruption and alleged the ombudsman, Conchita Morales, was conspiring with opposition figures to bring down his government.

Morales' office has been investigating allegations that Duterte had secret bank accounts that recorded millions of dollars he embezzled while a long-time mayor of the southern city of Davao.

returns to US from PHL

Marilou Danley flew out of Manila's international airport Tuesday night for Los Angeles, immigration bureau spokeswoman Maria Antoinette Mangrobang told AFP.

She was met in the United States Tuesday evening local time – yesterday in the Philippines – by FBI agents. The 62 year-old is classified as a "person of interest" to investigators but remains free to go wherever she wants, US media reported. .

PDEA to focus on
‘high-value targets'
in anti-drug war

MANILA - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency yesterday said it would focus on high-value and high-impact targets as it strengthens the resolve to win the country's war against illegal drugs.

PDEA director general Aaron Aquino called for an intensified campaign against the drug menace by conducting quality anti-illegal drug operations through the arrest of priority high-value target drug personalities.

He said all operating units were given instructions to observe operational thrusts, like the identification and dismantling of clandestine shabu laboratories, arrest of high-value targets, prioritization of court duties, ensuring conviction and incarceration of drug personalities, bolstering competencies and capabilities of PDEA personnel, strengthening of the agency's internal cleansing program, and reformation of drug users.
