The Integrated Sugarcane Growers of Negros Inc.(ISGNI) marked its 52 nd year of service to its planter-members at the Sala Grande Convention Hall of Resorts Negrense in Brgy. Punta Taytay, Bacolod, recently.
The association marked the anniversary with itsannual general assembly, election of officers and raffle draw, a press release from ISGNI said.
“When First Farmers mill started its operations in the mid-1960s, almost all big planters of Bacolod-Murcia Milling (BMMC) transferred to First Farmers. Thirteen planters decided to stay with BMMCo and form their own association, which is this association,” recalled ISGNI president Enrique Rojas.
“Even though I was the youngest of the 13 pioneers, they all decided to elect me as their president. Presently, I am the only one left among the 13 founders. All these years, we have survived the ups and downs of the sugar industry and, thanks to all of you, we are still operating today,” added Rojas, who is concurrently the president of the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters (NFSP).
“Your valued support and confidence in our leadership are the main reasons why our association has survived for more than 50 years now. As your president, Iassure you that your association and all its officers will always have your best interests in our hearts and minds,”Rojas further said.
