Dumaguete acts on scattered
trash complaints in Candauay
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo yesterday said the city government will rent an additional bulldozer for the dumpsite in Barangay Candauay to clear trash spilling over to the road, following complaints from road users and residents.

He made the announcement after some photos were posted recently on Facebook showing heaps of garbage in the middle of the road at the Candauay dumpsite.

He disclosed that the local government will procure its own bulldozer in the coming months to keep up with the demand at the open dumpsite, while efforts are now underway to find a sanitary landfill as required by law.

Senior Supt. Edwin Portento is the new acting director of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, based on Special Order 2603 issued by Camp Crame, on Sept. 1.

Portento, chief of the Comptroller Division of the Police Regional Office 7, replaced Senior Supt. Henry Biñas, who has been designated as Iloilo City Police Office chief.

Biñas, an Ilonggo, had served as provincial police director of Negros Oriental for more than a year.

City marks CSC Month
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo reminded yesterday City Hall employees that to be in government is a privilege, and those who don't have the heart to serve should go to the private sector.

He issued the statement as the local government unit celebrates the 117th Civil Service Commission Month with activities lined up for the whole month to culminate on Sept. 29.

He wanted to put a stop to employees getting promoted because they are “sip-sip” or are close friends with certain officials. The mayor assured them that the key to promotion is hard work, and being loyal to the assigned job, coupled with the right qualification and proper work attitude.
