“ ? Evolver” is R.A. Tijing's third solo exhibition this 2017, and he considers this collection his most experimental, as yet.
The last time Roderick Tijing ventured into a solo exhibition with Gallery Orange was January 2013. It has been a long time for the Negrense artist and he considers “Evolver” as a homecoming of sorts.
?Tijing's art statement explains that “ having had successive and successful solo exhibitions in the Manila area, he has made a stamp for himself in the Philippine art scene. Loyal to and consistently working with oil paint, he continues to hone and evolve his sense of art making and style. His loyalty to this material allowed him to explore it with confidence, thus leading to a constant and steady evolution to his painting process and storytelling.
In this series of works, he takes his own evolutionary process to another plane. Known for creating “clean” and polished finishes, the artist explores further and takes a leap onto producing works with more texture and bolder strokes. A natural evolution, he says, to investing years of focusing on improving and exploring his grasp of oil paint and the stories that he wishes to tell”.
Tijing is a self-taught artist. He was nominated in the 2012 Thirteen Artists Awards, is a 2010 semi-finalist in the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence national painting competition, a 1998 AAP qualifier, and a winner in numerous poster, logo and T-shirt design contests since 1996. His travels within the country and Europe helped him in his creative process, and allowed him to come to terms with his own volatile artistic persona.
?“ Evolver” is featured at the Mid Gallery of Gallery Orange September 15–30.*
