The 3,000 Negros Occidental provincial government employees are expected to get a bigger Christmas bonus this year.
Provincial Budget Officer Jose Percival Salado said yesterday the amount will be known next week and, hopefully, released during the Capitol Christmas party on December 14.
Last year the Capitol employees got a bonus of P40,000 each.
Salado said yesterday was the deadline for the provincial government payroll for December, after which they can compute the savings that will be the source of the bonuses.
“I am sure the savings will be big with a lot of vacant positions not filled up,” he said.
The bonus will not be lower than last year, it could even be bigger, he said.
He will submit the figures to the governor and it will be up to him to decide how much to give, so it can be sent to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Wednesday, and hopefully, will be ready by December 14, Salado said.
The budget officer said he will recommend to the governor that a bigger amount be given to the provincial government employees as it will be the last Christmas bonus he will give them as governor.
Marañon, as governor, is on his third and last term, that ends next year.*
