Five Negrense players qualify
to nat'l Jr. NBA/WNBA camp

Five young players from Negros Occidental qualified for the national training camp of Jr. NBA/WNBA Philippines after a two-day regional selection camps held during the weekend at the Trinity Christian School in Bacolod City.

Heading for the Jr. NBA national training camp on May at the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati City are Nathan Jan Jundana and Heinzy Gabriel Demisana of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, and Dancylle Gabrealene Busime of Colegio San Nicolas de Tolentino (Talisay), Danielle Gwen Dusaran of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and Gin Kayla Relliquette of Carmen Salles School for the Jr. WNBA.

The five young Negrense basketeers were among the 10 players chosen out of 482 who joined the regional selection camp in Bacolod City.

POC to elect new execs

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) will hold an election for the positions of president and chairman, at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong City on February 23.

A memorandum dated Feb. 8 and signed by POC Secretary General Stephen Hontiveros was sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the National Sports Associations and Athletes, informing them of the election.

"Please be reminded that only the president, secretary general or a duly authorized vice president can represent their NSA during this meeting as stated under Sec. 1(i), Article V of the POC Constitution and By-Laws," Hontiveros stated in the memorandum.

MSW Bleachers beat Mexicali,
Super Twins down Villamonte

Brew Kettle MSW Bleachers defeated Cobra Berry-Mexicali, 85-62, and Cobra Citrus -Super Twins grounded Heineken-Blitz Villamonte, 84-74, Thursday night in Class A of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Cup at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Covered Court.

Mexicali held a slim 18-17 first quarter advantage but MSW bounced back in the second canto as Sean Wee and Carlo Chu fired six points apiece for a double digit lead at the half, 44-34.

Joemel Garrido scored six poins in the third quarter for Mexicali but lack of scoring support allowed MSW Bleachers to extend the lead to 66-48 going into the fourth quarter.
