Solution to lack of
poll teachers seen

It looks like a solution to the lack of teachers to serve in the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Bacolod City may have been reached.

Bacolod Election Officer Mavil MajaruconSiaand Bacolod City Public School Teachers Federation president Gualberto Dajao met yesterday and both described it as positive.

Sia explained to Dajao that no charges were filed against the three Rizal Elementary School teachers who mistakenly proclaimed the wrong barangay kagawad as winner in the May 2013 polls, and she had, in fact, filed the pleadings for them.

She also assured Dajaothat she would endorse the other BCPSTF concerns to the Comelec en banc that has the power to act on them.

Dajao said he would relay what he and Sia discussed to the BCPSTF officials and members today. They had earlier decided not to serve in the May polls until their demands are met.

The meeting withSia was positive and the BCPSTF will come up with a decision today on whether to reverse their initial position, Dajao said.

Siasaid Bacolod needs 2,538 teachers to serve as members of the Electoral Boards and Barangay Boards of Canvassers, and as of yesterday they lacked about 500.

She said the deadline for constituting the boards was yesterday, but an extension had been granted.*CPG
