tourism linkages

The Negros Occidental provincial government is now benchmarking with the food tourism activities in Pampanga to create a similar food tourism program in this year's Panaad sa Negros Festival in April.

Provincial Planning and Development Officer Ma. Lina Sanogal said yesterday that Pampanga isa food destination in Luzon similar to Negros, that is also a key destination for food tourism in the Visayas.

Sanogal and provincial government officials and members of the Provincial Development Council were in Pampanga Monday to attend a Strategic Planning and Management Workshop and benchmarking activities in some sites in the province.

Neg. Occ. and Pampanga signed a sisterhood agreement in December last year, in time with the inaugural flight of Bacolod-Clark route of the Philippine Airlines.

Sanogal said the sister province of Negros has various food tourism activities which involve street foods, that could also be done during the Panaad Festival. The mother of all festivals in the province will celebrate its silver anniversary this year.

She said they have invited government officials of Pampanga to come during the Panaad Festival that some cities of the province have agreed to visit Negros during celebration.

Meanwhile, she said that plans to improve the projects eyed to be implemented this year were also discussed during the Strategic Planning Workshop, including the improvement of government-run hospitals in Negros. * MLG
