Bacolaodiat gun ban up

All permits to carry firearms outside of residence in Bacolod City are suspended in connection with this year's Bacolaodiat Festival starting tomorrow up to Monday.

“Only members of Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and other Law Enforcement Agencies who are performing official duties and in agency- prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms,” Senior Insp. Armilyn Vargas, Bacolod City Police Office public information officer, said yesterday.

This is part of the security preparations to ensure that the 13th Bacolaodiat Festival will be free from firearm-related incidents and to ensure safety of the populace, as well as local and foreign tourists, Vargas said.

Chief PNP Director General Ronald delaRosa hassigned the request for a gun ban in Bacolod for the Bacolaodiat Festival, Vargas said.

About 500 police officers from the 10 police stations, traffic enforcers and force multipliers are to be deployed for the festivities at Lacson Street and at the Bacolod City Government Center, Vargas said.

There will be about 150 augmentation men from the Police Regional Office-6 but they have not yet arrived in Bacolod because of cancelations of sea trips due to typhoon Basyang yesterday, she said.

In case the augmentation cannot arrive on time, and depending on the order of PRO-6, the BCPO may utilize the 150 police officers who are currently conducting the Basic Internal Security Operation Course at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Vargas said.

These augmentation groupwill not be deployed at festival sites but will replenish those police officers taken from the police stations, she added.*SGG
