Negros levels with Iloilo
in elementary medal tally

Winning the gold medal in football and basketball and dominating the taekwondo competition, the Negros Occidental elementary team matched Iloilo's tally of 64 gold medals to share the No. 1 ranking in the latest medal count of the 2018 WVRAA in Iloilo yesterday.

While Iloilo ruled in elementary boys and girls' volleyball, Negros Occidental won five gold medals in taekwondo as both provinces ended Day 4 with an identical 64 golds.

The Negros elementary boys' basketball team also beat Iloilo, 60-50, while its football squad prevailed over the Ilonggos, 6-1.

Australia beats Gilas, 84-68

Australia showed Gilas Pilipinas why it is the number one team in the newly-formed FIBA Asia-Pacific region with an 84-68 rout at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne last night.

It was a tale of two halves as Gilas actually put up a fight with Australia for most of the first half only to fizzle out down the stretch.

Behind a tough defense, Gilas limited Australia to just 19 points in the first quarter and even opening the second on a 7-2 run to take a 26-21 lead to the delight of the Filipino fans, who surprisingly made up majority of the attendance.
