Ceres-Negros beats Shan United in penalties to advance in Champions League qualifiers

Ceres-Negros FC prevailed over host Shan United 1-1 (4-3) in penalties last night to advance to the second round of the AFC Champions League preliminaries at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.

Coming off from a four-week break after winning the inaugural Philippines Football League title, The Busmen could not crack Shan's defense in regulation while goalkeeper Toni Doblas established himself as the new owner of jersey No. 1 with crucial saves.

Stephen Schrock's curling shot four minutes into the 30-minute extension finally put Ceres on top, 1-0, but Patrick Asare of Shan United leveled the score seven minutes later.

Phoenix seeks 3 rd straight
win against Rain or Shine in PBA

Phoenix takes on Rain or Shine for its next assignment in the PBA Philippine Cup, a team which coach Louie Alas considers as almost similar to the NLEX Road Warriors, who the Fuel Masters defeated in their last outing.

But Alas said that doesn't guarantee an instant victory for the surging Fuel Masters in their 4:30 p.m. encounter today with the Elasto Painters at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Fuel Masters are on a roll these days, having won back-to-back games after losing their season debut against defending champion San Miguel for a 2-1 record. A win over NLEX guarantees them of a share of second place with idle Magnolia.

Fajardo joins Gilas practice

After missing the first practice session, Junemar Fajardo made an appearance as the weekly Gilas training for the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers second window continued Monday night at the Meralco Gym in Pasig.

Also in attendance among the seniors were Japeth Aguilar, Gabe Norwood, Kiefer Ravena, Allein Maliksi, Jio Jalalon, Matt Wright, Carl Cruz, Troy Rosario, and Kevin Alas. RR Pogoy also showed up, but he did not suit up for practice.

Calvin Abueva, Jayson Castro, and Raymond Almazan were absent in practice, but according to team manager Butch Antonio, Abueva excused himself.
