Set aside politics, Malacon says

Mayor Marvin Malacon yesterday called on elected barangay officials of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental to set aside politics, and start working for the development of their barangays, and serve their constituents.

Start working now, so that you will not encounter problems in the next election, because you already have the satisfaction of your constituents, Malacon said.

But if you work only for salaries, you better leave the government service, he added.

All the 23 elected barangay officials, 161 kagawads and 23 Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons of the town took their oaths of office before Malacon yesterday, with seven town councilors, DILG officer Evelyn Vista, teachers, police personnel and municipal employees, who also participated the 120th Independence Day celebration present, in front of the EB Magalona municipal hall.

“If we sit as a public servant just for personal interest, kahuluya (what a shame)”, Malacon said, adding that elected barangay officials should have the willingness and volunteerism in themselves to serve the Saraviahanons.

As long as you do good and are transparent, there is nothing to be afraid of, whatever cases and complaints are lodged against you, Malacon, who, with several town councilors, is facing complaints before the Ombudsman, said.

Malacon also assured his full support to all elected barangay officials, so long as they serve their constituents, and not themselves.

The oathtaking ceremony was preceded by the Independence Day celebration and distribution of financial assistance to municipal government scholars, among others.*GPB
