Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya yesterday said the national government has allocated funds for the improvement of schools that offer a K to 12 Program for junior and senior high school students.
Gasataya said last November, the government allocated P300 million and this June, the bidding for school buildings with a budget of more than P700 million has started.
This is more than P1 billion worth of classrooms for the K to 12 program being implemented for Bacolod City, he said.
He has requested the Department of Public Works and Highways to fast-track the implementation of these projects which is very vital and necessary for high schools in Bacolod that offer the K to 12 program, he added.
Gasataya said the project is being implemented in different schools in Bacolod.
The budget came from the DepEd and the project is being implemented by the DPWH, he said.
DepEd allocated funds for the K to 12 project only in 2017, Gasataya said.
Meanwhile, Gasataya said he has directed the DPWH to continually check the drainage system in the city to help mitigate flooding.
When the drainage improvement is finished in July, this can help address the flooding situation along Lacson Street, he said.*CGS
