Multi-million investments
coming to NegOcc PVO

Multi-million investments in commercial farming of broiler chickens are coming to Negros Occidental this year, the Provincial Veterinary Office reported yesterday.

Dr. Renante Decena, in an interview, said five to 10 commercial farm investors are now applying with the PVO for the government’s assistance to establish a large-scale farm that could house up to 100,000 live chickens.

Each of these farms cost from P35 million to P50 million, including the facility, building, labor, and other expenses, Decena added.

More irrigated rice areas pushed

The Department of Agriculture in Western Visayas is stepping up its efforts to create more irrigated rice areas and increase production in the region.

Regional director Remelyn Recoter, in an interview yesterday, said that currently, the ratio of non-irrigated and irrigated rice areas in Region 6 is 60:40, and they want to reverse the ratio to increase production.

She said that, currently, Western Visayas is the third top rice-producing region in the country, following Central Visayas and Cagayan Valley.
