Cadiz paces Inter-Hacienda
softball tourney

 

Sluggers Cadiz outclassed Gaston Manapla Sunday to score its fourth consecutive win in the Negros First 2nd Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. Area 2 Inter Hacienda Summer League Softball tournament in Manapla town.

The competition is the Area II Second Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. Inter-Hacienda and First Mayor Lourdes Escalante Softball Summer League at the Hda. Lourdes Field of Dreams in Manapla.

The Cadiz squad now sports a 4-0 win-loss card to lead the eight-team field.

Burgos – Cadiz and Punta Salong – Manapla share the second spot with their identical 3-1 records while Gaston – Manapla has a 3-2 mark.

Lourdes-Manapla has two wins and three losses, while Alma-Sagay has one win in three outings.

Fuentes-Sagay and Dos Hermanos-Manapla are still winless after three and four matches, respectively.

The Burgos players overhauled Dos Hermanos, 11-2, before edging Gaston, 12-11, in its weekend games.

Punta Salong needed a one-inning extensionto prevail over Alma, 17-15, for win No. 3.

After three successive losses earlier, Lourdes – Manapla bounced back with twin triumphs -- 12-10 over Fuentes-Sagay and 20-11 to hand Dos Harmanos its fourth straight loss.

During the April 28 opening of the tournament, former Manapla town Mayor Manuel Escalante said that the staging of the Inter Hacienda and Open Summer league softball tournaments in Manapla will provide a venue for softball players to showcase their talents.

Addressing the participants he said there are lots of softball talents in Negros Occidental who need an avenue to display their full potentials.

“With the strong response from these teams, we in Manapla, together with the provincial government will further develop this venue into a standard diamond that is capable to host national and maybe international events. We want to showcase what Manapla can do to further promote our sports tourism,” Escalante said.*
