DPWH studies underpass
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Department of Public Works and Highways-Bacolod District Office will conduct a study on the area where the underpass project will be constructed once their proposal is approved by the DPWH Central Office, Bacolod Greg Gasataya said yesterday.

Gasataya said the feasibility study on the project is ongoing in the DPWH Bureau of Design.

He said they are putting up the underpass in areas where traffic is heavy, especially along the Circumferential Road.

They proposed to put up one near the Bacolod City Government Center and along the C.L. Montelibano Drive since the DPWH requires that it should be on a road with six lanes, he added.

Gasataya said this is one of the steps they are taking to help address the traffic problem in Bacolod City.

The overpass is also a good project, but there are certain businesses that will be affected, he said.

The DPWH will work on the budget for the underpass project and will also conduct traffic experiments in the areas they have proposed, Gasataya said.

They have started discussing the project last January, while the DPWH-BOD already gave a positive initial response to their proposal, he added.

Earlier, Gasataya said, the proposed project has the support of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran.*CGS
