Priest found dead in convent
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

A priest was found dead at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Quasi Parish Church in Purok Mahimulaton, Barangay Mabini in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday, the police said.

Reverend Fr. Jerry Atil, 58, a resident of Toledo City in Cebu province, was found lying lifeless in the convent of the church by caretaker and knight of the altar, Johnrey Amad, a police report said.

Initial investigation of the Cadiz Police Station showed that Atil had a daily maintenance medication for high blood pressure and he also previously suffered twice from a stroke.

Amad told the police that on Tuesday night, Atil complained of not feeling well and was vomiting.

Personnel of the Scene of the Crime Operatives of Negros Occidental also proceeded to the scene and conducted an ocular investigation.

Msgr. Eugene Peral of the Diocese of San Carlos had signed the refusal for autopsy of Atil’s body, police records show.

The body of Atil now lies in state at the St. Peter Funeral Homes in Barangay Tinampa-an in Cadiz City, the police added.*
