Sweet Crystals Sugar overcame an undermanned Basecom, 88-79, while Huminova Tigers stopped Silver Dragon Transport, 73 66, Tuesday night in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.
Basecom led at the half, 34-32, as Efraim Valencia scored 14 points and Marc Lo added 16, even as Ervin Tan delivered 10 points and ChibonUy and Mark Choa contributed 8 points apiece for Sweet Crystals Sugar.
Sweet Crystals finally moved ahead in the third quarter, holding on to a 67-65 advantage as Robbie Jalandoon fired three triples to register 13 points while Lo and Dirk Dongon combined for 13 points.
Fatigue finally caught up with Basecom in the fourth quarter as Nicole Mediana led a balanced Sweet Crystals offense with Bambam Gilbor providing scoring support.
Medina finished with 21 points to lead Sweet Crystals while Jalandoon added 17, Tan nailed 12 points and Gilbor with 8 points.
Valencia sizzled with 27 points for Basecom as Lo finished with 26, Dongon shot 13 points, Jolly Castillo with 9 and Errol Su with 5 points.
In the nightcap, Huminova Tigers led at the break, 36-34,against Silver Dragon as RB Chua scored 9 points and Arvin Gustilo added 8, while Ralph Richard Tan, Johann Villanueva and John Chua combined for 17 points.
The game was tied at 54-all by the end of the third as Marc Jalapa and Tan combined for 11 points for Silver Dragon while Joshua Lao led Huminova Tigers offense with 6 points.
RB Chua scored 8 points in the last stretch with teammates Bobby Yap and Gustilo backing him up with 4 points apiece to outscore Silver Dragon Transport and debut with a victory.
Chua paced Huminova Tigers with 19 points, Gustilo added 12, Yap and Sibug shot 10 points each and Joseph Tiu had 6 points.
Ralph Richard Tan finished with 6 triples for 18 points while Jalapa dropped 15, Villanueva with 8, Jericho Ang shot with 7 points, and Toffel Tan made 6 points for Silver Dragon.*NAB
