LOPTTA team wins two bronzes

The Lopue’s Table Tennis Association (LOPTTA) Team led by its president Leonito “Diotay” Lopue with Coach Marell Lagunday-Alvarez earned two bronzes in the recent16th Uni-Orient Cup held at the San Beda University gymnasium in Manila.

The LOPTTA Elementary Boys Team composed of Anton Andre Bayona, John Belzunce, Joaquin Bragancia, Franz Jedriek Geganto qualified to advance to the next round after claiming the second rank in the elimination stage.

After a dominant performance in the knockout round top 32 and top 16, the team beat the Royal Paddle , despite one of their players being a Palarong Pambansa aspirant, against the LOPTTA neophytes. The team settled for 2nd runner-up after a close fight with the NCRs’ Palaro players.

Also in the list of winners during this annual tournament organized by the Table Tennis Association for National Development (TATAND) is the LOPTTA High School girls Team composed of Micah Tanate, Ayumi Iida, and Glieza Shane Marie Cordova, that was 2nd runner up after losing their match against Saint Martins’ team 2-3.

The Veterans team of LOPTTA composed of Jose Eli Canalin, Jude Aruta, Coach Marell Lagunday-Alvarez, and Pastor Hosea Alvarez, however, lost in the triple tie of the elimination stage. Marell Lagunday-Alvarez also lost in the quarterfinals of women’s singles open against Kheith Rhynne Cruz.

As an incentive, Uni-Orient is giving all the winners a free trip to Xiamen, China to play against Chinese players in November.*
