Nineteen persons, including the driver and a month-old baby, were injured when the jeepney they were riding allegedly developed mechanical trouble and fell on its side at a sugarcane plantation at Montelibano Road, Hacienda Rosario in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City, at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Injured were driver Rolex Talimodao, 37, and passengers Minerva Puyong, 32, Lourdes Panagsagan, 76, Greg Villanueva, 24, Dennis Villanueva, 21, Lena Talimodao, 55, Jackelyn Lizares, 49, Jeaneth Casuyon, 40, Marcelo Puyong, 32, Margarette Marin, 27, John Paul Acuna, 25, Christina Baltazar, 39, Elamae Pastrana, 19, Eva Pastrana, 44, Novem Visiata, 31, and four minors aging 13, 11, 8 years old, and a month-old baby, police records show.
Police Captain Romulo Gepilango V, Station 5 chief, said the victims sustained minor injuries and were brought to the hospital, adding that no one had complained against the driver.
Traffic investigation showed that the public utility jeepney was travelling on the road when its drag link malfunctioned and the vehicle hit the gutter and proceeded to a sugarcane plantation, where it fell on its side, Gepilango said.*
