Arrest suspect in slay
of PIO worker: mayor

Hinobaan Mayor Ernesto Estrao said yesterday that he has directed the police to conduct hot pursuit operations against the suspect in the killing of a contractual employee of the public information officeof his town.

The victim Hernani Gustilo, 40, was declared dead on arrival at the Eleuterio Decena Memorial Hospital in Hinobaan, the police said.

The suspect,who was his uncle, was identified by the Hinobaan police as Vicente Pampliega, 59.

Estrao said he has directed the police to step up their efforts to arrest Pampliega who reportedly shot the suspect twice on the chest.

The victim reportedly hosted a program on RH 100.5 FM Hinoba-an and was one of the anchors on Radyo Natin Hinoba-an who went by the name Victor Papa.

A 357 Magnum revolver was recovered beside the cadaver of Gustilo, 52, which was turned over to the Hinobaan police, as well as a knife and a cartridge case.

The incident was reported by the police to have been triggered by misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, two unidentified suspects also shot Crisanto Suelto Jr. on Saturday in Brgy. Laga-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Suelto,49 and a laborer, was also declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava District Hospital.

Police investigation showed that the victim was on his way home after attending a fiesta, when he was waylaid by the two suspects.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, the Calatrava police said.*
