Soldiers overrun
NPA camp in Bindoy
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Army soldiers overran a temporary camp of the New People’s Army yesterday and seized several high-powered firearms, following an encounter in Sitio Kampong-oy, Brgy. Cabcababan, Bindoy, Negros Oriental.

1Lt. Ma. Allein Veluz, 62nd Infantry Battalion Civil Military Operations officer, yesterday said the firefight between Army soldiers and a group of communist rebels, lasted for about five minutesand the latter withdrew in different directions, leaving traces of bloodstains along their withdrawal routes.

Veluz said the fleeing rebels left at the vacated NPA camp that could accommodate 20 persons, two M-16 assault rifles, aM-4 assault rifle, one sack of rice, assorted subversive documents, a medical kit, cooking utensils, hammocks and rain boots.

Soldiers of the 94IB and 62IB are still doing clearing operations, while pressing their pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels.

Veluz said she believes that those encountered last week by 62IB soldiers in Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City, are believed to be colleagues of those encountered yesterday in Bindoy, Negros Oriental.

Seven soldiers were injured by an improvised explosive device explosion last week in Himamaylan City.

The presence of armed rebels in the area was reported to the 62nd and 94th IBs and yielded a positive result, Veluz said.*
