The Lopue’s Table Tennis Association, headed by Leonito “Diotay” Lopue, conducted a free clinic at Sum-ag National High School, Saturday.
Led by multi-awarded table tennis coach Marell Lagunday-Alvarez and Pastor-Coach Hosea Alvarez, LOPTTA players share their expertise with the Sum-ag students.
“The clinic focused on the basic fundamentals of sports and character development. We are doing this to tap and develop more table tennis in the grassroots, “ Lopue said.
The LOPTTA president also donated brand new Mizuno rubber shoes to Sum-ag National High School table tennis players.
“We are extending our program outside LOPTTA training center to equip a club with exemplary leaders and standard facilities as well as channel support for local players, who will eventually compete in the national and international tournaments,” Lopue said.
He added that LOPTTA’s mission is to create an avenue for every table tennis player to enhance their skills and develop their attitudes and values to reach their goals and achieve success.
“We want to develop sportsmanship among these players. This means instilling fair play,” he said.
Lopue expressed his disappointment on the current state of sports in the country.
“When I was elected as one of the Directors of the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines, I was surprised to see how disorganized it was. I started LOPTTA in 2002, and trained as a player, to better understand the sport and its organization from a player and the organizer point of view,” Lopue said.
“I would like to help the underprivileged but talented players from the grassroots by continuously holding table tennis tournaments across the province and other parts of the Visayas region,” the LOPTTA president added.*
