City cops only on heightened alert
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

The Bacolod City Police Office is on heightened alert and not full alert following reports of alleged threats, Police Col. Henry Biñas, BCPO city director, said yesterday.

Biñas said they can only upgrade to full alert once there is a declaration from their higher office.

Full or red is the highest security alert status of the Philippine National Police, indicating that the security of the area is under verified threat.

The next lower status is heightened and then the normal alert, and each is defined with parameters or conditions, he said.

“There is information about the threat but no specific details yet,” Biñas said.

Nevertheless, he said, they are always on alert, adding thatthe visibility and coordination with the stakeholders are also boosted.

Since not all areas can be covered and guarded by the police, the BCPO is appealing to the public to still bevigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities in their areas, Biñas said.

“If they see policemen, usually they will not attack. They are choosing areas with weak security,” he added.*
