NOPSSCEA SEASON 39
Founding schools to boycott basketball games;
head coach faces sanction for on-court brawl
BY NIDA A. BUENAFE

Unresolved issues continue to plague the NOPSSCEA Season 39 after three schools threatened to boycott the men’s basketball games if foreign players are allowed to play in the league.

A NOPSSCEA insider said that founding schools University of St. La Salle, Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod and member school La Consolacion College – Bacolod threatened to back out from the competition if the league allows Colegio de Sta. Ana – Victorias to field Cameroonian JR Esskadoualla.

The three schools were apparently not informed about a prior letter from NOPSSCEA to Sta. Ana giving clearance to Essakadoualla to play this season.

Triathlete delivers first gold
for PH in 30th SEA Games

Rambo Chicano delivered the first gold for the Philippines after he ruled the 30th Southeast Asian Games men's triathlon yesterday at Subic Bay Boardwalk.

After a second-place finish to Nikko Huelgas in the 2017 meet in Kuala Lumpur, the Olongapo City native clocked one hour, 53 minutes and 26 seconds to win his first-ever SEA Games gold medal.

“I’m so happy that I almost I can’t believe I won. My mindset is the athlete from Indonesia is strong. He was behind us all throughout,” said Chicano, who clearly had the home-court advantage.
