A woman participant in the Negros Island 2019 Road Tour yesterday died in a motorcycle crash in Hinoba-an, while a minor also suffered a similar fate in La Carlota City,all in Negros Occidental.
Police Maj. Clifford Batadhay said yesterday that Mary Grace Pe, of Antique, was declared dead on arrival at the Kabankalan District Hospital, after she figured in a motorcycle accident, while negotiating a rotunda in Brgy. 1 poblacion, Hinoba-an.
Pe was among the 70 to 100 participants of the Negros Island 2019 Road Tour, Batadhay said.
Batadhay also confirmed that two other motorcycle riders, who were participants of the road tour, also figured in accidents in Brgy. Culipapa, Hinobaan, but managed to continue their journey.
He also lamented the lack of coordination by organizers of the event with police stations in southern Negros, noting also that some motorcycles of the participants were equipped with noisy exhaust systems.
On Saturday, a minor, who was driving a motorcycle, with a back rider identified as Rommel Arzaga, also figured in accident in Brgy. 3, La Carlota City.
The police said the victims were on their way home, to Brgy. DSB, Pontevedra, on board a Suzuki Raeder motorcycle when the accident occurred.
The minor was declared dead on arrival at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial Hospital, while Arzaga is now being treated at a hospital in Bacolod City.*
