Give athletes moral support: Bing
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday requested everyone to give moral support to Filipino athletes who are participating in different sports events in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Leonardia said that all participants from Bacolod should be identified. “We pride ourselves to be a city of champions.”

He also assured the athletes that they are solidly behind them and are very proud of them. “We are proud of you no matter what will be the result of the games. We consider you all winners,” he said

The mayor recalled that the last time the SEAG was held here, the Philippines emerged the overall champion. He believes that the hometown crowd is really a big factor in games like this.

As of last night the Philippines had 21 gold medals, Leonardia said.

“Let us use this as a time to be united. This is for the pride of the country and national unity,” he said.

Actor Monsour del Rosario also called on the people to rally and support the Filipino athletes and help boost their spirit, during a recent courtesy call he paid on the mayor.

Del Rosario, president of the SEAG Taekwondo Federation, also asked the people not to concern themselves with what happened to some of the delegation from other countries who are participating in the SEAG.

“Let us focus first on the Filipino athletes because this is for them. Hopefully we can help the image of the country with their victories. We should also show that we are a good host,” he said.

Del Rosario said the next time the Philippines will be holding the SEAG isafter 14 years which is a long time.

Leonardia said he congratulated House Speaker Allan Cayetano for the successful opening of the SEAG. That should erase all problems that happened.

According to Cayetano it was blown out of proportion because there had been 304 arrivals and only three had problems, he said.

Del Rosario said he is also inviting the public to support the taekwondo competition at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on December 7 to 9.*
