Philharmonic Orchestra to hold
free 2-night concert in Bacolod

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), the country’s leading symphony orchestra and a resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, will stage a free two-night outreach concert in Bacolod City, on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, a press release from the city said.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who initiated the project, said the concert at the SMX Convention Center Bacolod on Jan. 31 will be “by invitation” only.

The next night, the PPO will hold an open-air concert at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.

“Bacolod has to grow in all aspects, including culture. We are also inviting the barangays to watch this concert,” Leonardia said.

Councilor Em Ang, project manager of the concert, said they started meeting with CCP president Arsenio Lizaso and other officials last year, to make sure that the Bacolod concert is included in the 2019 concert calendar of the PPO, the press release said.

She said the two-night concert is part of the PPO’s outreach program which aims to “promote music appreciation in underserved communities in the different regions in the country.”

“The 80-man PPO is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region, and we are fortunate that it has chosen Bacolod to promote their music,” Ang added.

“It will boost our efforts to revive our people’s interest in the performing arts,” she stressed.

Ang said they have also invited civic and business leaders, government officials and employees, DepEd officials, and performing arts enthusiasts to watch the concert,” the press release added.*
