Hubby detained for killing wife
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A 69-year-old husband was arrested yesterday by the police after he allegedly killed his wife in Hacienda San Ramon, Brgy. Luna, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

The suspect was identified by Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, Cadiz police officer-in-charge, as Jose Hernalin, 69, who was believed to be mentally unstable.

Cadiz police investigation showed that the victim, Violeta Hernalin, 64, was sleeping, when she was killed allegedly by her husband using an axe, shortly before Wednesday midnight.

She succumbed to hack wounds in the neck.

Mansueto said that the suspect, who tried to flee, was intercepted by a barangay tanod and policemen who responded to the incident, at about 1 a.m. yesterday.

The police are set to file parricide charges against the suspect, who is now locked up in jail.*
